Scientific studies on meditation

There are over 6000 results for "meditation" on PubMed. So there have been a huge number of studies done on the subject.

This is what I'm interested in, actual data that can determine what effects meditation have or don't have on the mind and body. There many claims about meditation, but people make wild claims about all sorts of stuff.

As far as studies that showed positive results, at first glance, there are several.

One study in JAMA Internal Medicine did in fact show that mindfulness meditation based therapy did reduced depression and anxiety in people with GAD.

Other studies showed that meditation can improve attention, focus, and working memory.

Several studies show that meditation can reduce depression and pain. One study in the Journal of Pain found that mindfulness meditation reduced pain intensity.

Also some studies suggest that meditating can improve immune function.

But not all results are positive, which is not something that is touched upon in most writings about meditation. Basically, it's mostly "meditate and your life will be great" type of stuff.

As far as negative studies go, I'm aware of one showing meditation induced anxiety, another showing meditation induced depersonalization, and another showing meditation induced psychosis.

Of course, these negative experiences could be extremely rare, and the individuals involved could likely have pre-existing vulnerabilities, but shouldn't people at least know if there are risks?
